As unexpected as it may seem, the video streaming service Netflix has reduced the prices of its subscription plans in more than 30 countries in recent weeks. True, Latvia is not on the list of these countries.
In connection with both the change of the business model last year and the appointment of a new CEO, the company has decided to change the price policy in some countries, reducing them. In some countries, the service subscription fee will be half the price, but it depends on the region. Subscription fees will be reduced in countries such as Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Iran. Also in several regions in Africa, such as Kenya.
It is clear that this reduction applies more to developing countries, where the purchasing power is not that great. However, some European countries – Croatia, Slovenia and Bulgaria – are also on the list. Latvia will not be affected by the price reduction, nor will we find the United States of America on the list.
The specific reasons for the price reduction have not been explained, however, it must be assumed that the revenues in these countries were not so high, and the company realized that it is better to reduce prices than to increase them. The growing competition from other services, such as HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV+, etc., should also be taken into account
