Netflix Gaming Division Reveals 10 First-Party Games in Development with 90 Titles Overall

That Netflix is really serious about games is already the leitmotif of all our latest news about this company. The head of the gaming division, Mike Verdu, has now revealed to the magazine Axios, that the streaming giant currently has more than 10 first-party games in development, which it develops in six of its own studios. Together with external partners, he works on a total of 90 titles. It seems that the only thing left to do is move on to the big games, as has been repeatedly speculated. At least the ones from the cloud.

Dozens of games on offer and improved GTA scores

Last month, Netflix celebrated the second anniversary of its gaming offering. In that time, the company has released over 80 titles and is clearly satisfied with its results so far in the field of mobile entertainment, even if the start has been slower. And this despite the fact that, according to statistics, only a fraction of existing subscribers have tried a game. But Netflix is not letting up, and in addition to buying game studios, it has also established its own teams.

In 2023 alone, Netflix offered its customers 40 games, and among them, for example, the improved Grand Theft Auto trilogy in the definitive edition. While the collection on PC and consoles hasn’t exactly received a positive response, first impressions of the mobile version seem to be significantly better. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas attract further improvements, including new classic lighting that is more reminiscent of the original games and their skies, stated Rockstar.

What about other platforms?

A number of fans have already written that thanks to this change and the correction of other errors, the novelty is significantly more attractive, and players are logically asking whether the modifications will also be reflected in other versions on other platforms. Some even claim that this is the best version of the remastered trilogy so far. On mobiles, it is possible to scale the resolution according to the performance of the device, and the fog in San Andreas looks like it should again. While some bugs remain, many others are reported by fans to have been fixed. Rockstar has yet to say whether it will include these improvements in other versions, but it would be a sin to ignore them. Each improved part can be purchased separately for both iOS and Android. We haven’t tried the ports ourselves yet.

Until the end of the year I want have Netflix on offer 86 games. Titles such as Game Dev Tycoon, Sonic Mania Plus, FashionVerse or the internally developed Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit are to come in 2024, he announced recently. Sonic Mania Plus was released on PC and consoles in 2018. It’s heading to mobile for the first time ever. Previously announced games such as Hades, Braid: Anniversary Edition, Death’s Door or Katana Zero are also on the way.
