Netflix deletes episode of “Community” due to racial controversy

Several productions are undergoing changes as a result of the latest racial controversies in the United States, which were unleashed by the murder of the African American George Floyd at the hands of the police.

To these modifications was added the acclaimed comedy “Community”, after Netflix decided to delete one of its episodes by using “blackface”, makeup technique used to represent people of color.

Is about “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons”, Chapter 14 of the second season of the series created by Dan Harmon. There the characters play a game of the popular role-playing game and “Ben Chang” (Ken Jeong) appears painted black in a white wig and elf ears.

“So are we going to ignore that hate crime?” Responds “Shirley” (Nicole Brown), the group’s African American, to the appearance of “Chang.”

The questioned episode already not available on the Netflix platform. For now, it will not be reinstated, as happened with “Gone with the Wind” on HBO Max, which returned this week with a couple of explanatory videos about its representations of African Americans.
