Streaming giant Netflix is getting into live sports! The US company announced on Tuesday that it will broadcast the “Netflix Cup” – a golf tournament between four PGA professionals and four Formula 1 drivers who will compete against each other.
The event will take place on November 14th. Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas compete as professional golfers, while Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz take part as Formula 1 drivers. One golfer and one driver will form a team and compete together.

The teams compete in an 8-hole tournament, the two leading duos will then play for victory in a decisive ninth hole. The game will be played in Las Vegas, as Formula 1 will be a guest there just four days later as part of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
All eight participants are important characters in two successful Netflix sports documentaries. The Formula 1 documentary “Drive to Survive” enjoyed great popularity worldwide, especially in the USA, the series caused a massive boom in Formula 1 during the Corona pandemic. After the huge success, Netflix put the PGA Tour in February Documentary “Full Swing”.

Netflix has been mentioned as a potential live sports provider for some time, but so far the streaming service has always held back on the matter. Just in July, Netflix Vice CEO Ted Sarandos said: “We can show a strong offering of live sports without being part of the complicated licensing process.” Will that change in the future?
