Netflix Animation Restructuring Sparks Controversy: What’s Next for the Streaming Giant’s Animated Films?

Netflix Animation has announced that it has laid off a third of its animators in what is officially being called a restructuring. In total, around 50 employees will be forced to leave the company, and in an internal statement, Netflix says:

“As we shared in our last town hall, we have scaled back our future film program to focus on delivering two Netflix-owned tentpole films a year, and that unfortunately means today we have to say goodbye to some of our overhead colleagues .”

In insider who chose to speak to the press, however, took it all in stride and said:

“Despite the layoffs, this is still a studio that commits to two original films a year, what other studio does that these days?”

In fact, there are still many ambitions within Netflix’s walls, and next year at least seven animated films are planned, including Ultraman: Rising and Orion and the Dark – both with fairly good publicity behind them.

What do you think of the overall quality of Netflix’s animated movies, and which one is your favorite?
