Netflix wants to prevent the sharing of accounts between people who do not live in the same house. How is it supposed to look like? The following message will appear on the screen: “Help us confirm this is your account. We can send the verification code to XXX or to YYY ZZZ XXX.”
The new verification method requires confirmation of access: by e-mail sent to the mailbox assigned to the account or by SMS to the phone assigned to the account.
After selecting one of the two methods, a special code is sent to the platform, after which you can view the productions available on the platform.
Apart from selecting the verification path, another option will appear on the screen that allows you to postpone entering the code until later. However, it is not known for how long this obligation can be postponed. For now, there is also no information on how often you will need to verify your account.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced that the platform will “test many solutions, but never introduce something that tightens the screw to users”. – We intend to continue working on accessibility in the countries in which we operate, but at the same time we want to make sure that people using a Netflix account are authorized to do so. And that’s what this series of tests is all about. This is nothing new, we have been doing it for some time – he added in an interview with HDTV Polska.
However, let us remind you that Netflix has previously introduced changes that are unfavorable to users, e.g. it has removed the possibility of using a free trial period.
Why does Netflix want to prevent account sharing?
According to Netflix’s regulations, after purchasing the appropriate package, it can be used on several devices, but only within one apartment or house. We cannot share an account with people with whom we do not live.
Verifying the account on Netflix is a bit of a difficulty, but it does not prevent the sharing of accounts between friends or family. However, there are many people who do not know each other, and still share the package on the platform, and this is what Netflix wants to eliminate.
