Netatmo presents a HomeKit connected lock

Netatmo completes its home automation offer with a connected lock, presented at the CES which is being held in Las Vegas. The French manufacturer, which now belongs to the Legrand group, offers a product tailored for the European market and which should be compatible with just about every door in our region. It must be said that its solution is as minimal as possible, replacing only the cylinder.

If your door is equipped with a standard European cylinder, and if its edge is less than 10 cm, it is compatible with the Smart Lock from Netatmo. You can even replace the old cylinder with the new one, even if any locksmith can also take care of it. Besides its great compatibility, the other advantage of this approach is that it limits the changes to be made on the door. You will keep the original handle and from the outside, you will not even necessarily see that there is a specific lock.

It remains more complicated and visible than a connected lock which keeps the original cylinder and which permanently turns a key in the door. But Netatmo highlights another function of its product: it is supplied with NFC keys which can be (de) activated remotely.

The builder provides three keys, which are not at all like traditional keys. An NFC chip communicates with the lock and unlocks it, if the key is authorized. If lost, you can deactivate a key without having to change everything. And you can also allow the door to open for a specific period only.

Like all connected locks, the Netatmo lock also works with a smartphone. The manufacturer has opted for Bluetooth rather than Wi-Fi, and it highlights the lack of internet connection and excellent autonomy (two years announced with an AAA battery). On the other hand, this also means that it is not possible to modify the parameters of the lock remotely, it must be done next to the door.

The Netatmo Smart Lock being HomeKit compatible, there will still be a solution in this case. By adding a HomeKit concentrator within range of the lock, you can remotely control it and open the door when someone rings the doorbell via a connected doorbell. This connection to HomeKit will also automate the house, for example to turn on lights on and off when the lights are closed.

Netatmo has not yet indicated when its lock should be released, or even its price, but we know that it will not be linked to a subscription. The manufacturer invites you to leave an email address on product page, to receive information when it is released.
