Opponents of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are expected to form a coalition to form a new cabinet, media reported on Sunday.

Israel’s early parliamentary elections on March 23 were the fourth in two years, but again, none of the camps managed to win an overwhelming majority. As before, the balance of power between Netanyahu’s supporters and opponents is virtually the same.
But media reports that Naftali Bennett, leader of the Yemina Jewish nationalist party, has decided to form an alliance with Jair Lapid, leader of the central Yesh Atid party. The parties have not yet made an official statement.
Bennett and Lapid have agreed to take up the post of prime minister. Bennett will be the prime minister for the first two years, after which he will be replaced by Lapid, Israeli radio reported.
After the election, Netanyahu, who has been prime minister for 12 years, failed to set up a new cabinet, and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin entrusted Lapid with forming a government this month.
Yesh Atid plans to continue coalition talks with Gideon Sarah’s New Hope party on Sunday. Yesh Atid has already reached an agreement with the left-wing Meretz, the Labor Party and the ultra-nationalist Yisrael Beiten.
Lapid is trying to secure the support of several small parties to form a minority government that is acceptable to Arab MPs.
These parties represent different political views and goals, but they are united by the opposition Netanyahu.
