Netanyahu’s opponents are approaching the formation of a new coalition – Abroad – News

Bennett said he had decided to take such a step when it became clear that he would not be able to form a right-wing coalition without outside support. The only alternative is a new election, which would be the fifth since 2019, or a coalition with the Lapida-led party.

In Israel’s early parliamentary elections on March 23, none of the camps again succeeded in gaining an overwhelming majority. As before, the balance of power between supporters and opponents of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is virtually the same.

After the election, Netanyahu, who has been prime minister for 12 years, failed to set up a new cabinet, and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin this month entrusted the formation of a government to Lapid, which has until Wednesday.

Israeli media report that Lapid and Bennett intend to lead a minority coalition that would be supported externally by members of Arab parties. They both intend to take up the post of Prime Minister on shifts. Bennett will be the prime minister for the first two years, after which he will be replaced by Lapid, Israeli radio reported.
