Netanyahu to the UN: “I came to put things right” – Diplomats left – 2024-09-28 15:32:27

Benjamin Netanyahu’s presence at the UN General Assembly was episodic. The Israeli prime minister, when he took the podium, made it clear that he had no intention of attending, but he was forced to do so.

“I had no intention of coming here this year. My country is at war and fighting for its life. But after hearing the lies and slander spewed against my country by many of the speakers on this stage, I decided to come here and put things right.”as he characteristically mentioned.

“We must defend ourselves against these barbaric killers. Our enemies do not only seek to destroy us, they seek to destroy our common civilization and turn us all into a dark age of tyranny and terror.”.

Direct attack on Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran

Later in his speech he used maps and attacked Hezbollah, Hamas and Iran. “Israel has every right to remove this threat and return our citizens to their homes safely. And that’s exactly what we’re doing… we’ll continue to degrade Hezbollah until all of our goals are achieved.”Netanyahu said.

“Just imagine if terrorists turned El Paso and San Diego into ghost towns … How long would the US government put up with this?” he said, shaking his fist for emphasis. “However, Israel has been tolerating this unacceptable situation for almost a year. Well, I came here today to say: Enough, enough,” he pointed out.

Then he took aim at Iran, saying: “I have a message for the tyrants of Tehran. If you hit us, we’ll hit you. There is no place in Iran that the long arm of Israel cannot reach, and that goes for the entire Middle East. Instead of being sheep led to the slaughter, Israeli soldiers fight back with incredible courage.”.

Just before concluding his speech he said: “I have one more message for this assembly and for the people outside this room: ‘We are winning.'”.

Mass reaction of diplomats

It is worth noting that during Benjamin Netanyahu’s rise to the podium, dozens of diplomats left the room as a sign of protest against Israel’s position in both Palestine and Lebanon.
