Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Saturday’s Hezbollah drone attack on his home as an assassination attempt.

“The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to kill me and my wife today was a serious mistake,” Netanyahu said in a statement on Saturday, quoted by Bloomberg.

The Israeli leader said the incident would not stop the “just war against our enemies”.

We recall that Netanyahu and his family were not in the house at the time. No one was injured in the attack.

None of the groups fighting Israel immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Israeli military previously indicated that a drone had been launched from Lebanon and that it had hit a building, without providing further details. Two more drones that crossed Israeli territory were intercepted.

Meanwhile, Israel carried out new airstrikes on the Lebanese capital Beirut on Saturday – the worst attack in a week, the BBC reported.

Huge plumes of smoke were seen rising over the city’s southern suburbs, where Hezbollah’s main base is located.

Damage and casualties are still being assessed, but at least one multi-storey building has been completely destroyed.

The Israeli military said it attacked Hezbollah’s weapons depots and the command center of the intelligence headquarters in Dahiyeh.

Also on Saturday, Hezbollah fired hundreds of rockets at the Israeli city of Haifa and areas to the north. One man was killed by shrapnel, Israeli medics said.

On Friday, Hezbollah again announced that it was beginning a new phase of its war with Israel. At the end of last month, Israel significantly increased its airstrikes against Lebanon and sent ground forces to the ground.
