Netanyahu is playing all-in with the US – 2024-05-02 06:35:49

/ world today news/ Therefore, the time has come for the USA not only to choose, but also to act.

The first leg of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s Middle East tour took place. She began with a visit to Israel and meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. The day before, Blinken on his page on the social network “X” revealed the Israeli agenda for negotiations: discussing Israel’s right to self-defense and working to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

But, as noted by the Egyptian publication Noonpost, the State Department prepared very carefully for this, the third visit of the US secretary of state to Israel since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, determining the contents of the files on Blinken’s suitcase.

We talk about a new US strategy in the region in “the plan to change the map of regional and international unions’. This thesis hides the main intrigue, since the US does not hide that it has no intention of sacrificing its relations with the Arab world in favor of Israel. At the same time, Washington understands that their intentions are beginning to contradict Israel’s plans, given the fact that it is also playing its own “game”.

Its importance, according to the former Lebanese ambassador to Washington, Riad Tabar, depends on the ultimate goals of the war that the US and Israel have. In an interview with Al-Diyar, he said that the United States intends, along with its declared support for Israel, to build so-called containment barriers for external pressure on it for tactical reasons as Israel seeks to restore its influence in Gaza, even if this leading to a confrontation with Lebanon and a “long war”.

Blinken’s task was “to close everything only around Gaza and its future status and to offer a new alternative to the Arab world”. That is why it was in this “branch” that events began to take place, which chronologically coincided with Blinken’s visit to Israel.

First. Israel attacked the Gaza Treatment Hospital, the Jerusalem Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza. In this regard, the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, said that “the brutality that coincided with US Secretary of State Blinken’s visit to Israel was not a random event.”

The Secretary of State was pressed to respond to such an act, but he remained silent, allowing Henia to say that “The US has given the green light to the Israeli occupation and openly supported it and defied all humanitarian values and international laws.”

Second, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah gave a speech in Beirut. He had remained steadfastly silent since October 7 and there were even rumors that he had been killed during one of Israel’s bombing raids.

In his speech, he was expected to declare war on Israel on the part of the movement. But while he condemned Israel and expressed support for Hamas, he spoke very carefully. According to many Arab experts, this is due to the fact that Nasrallah apparently “has all the possibilities for the upcoming peace negotiations and has not crossed the “red lines” in order not to further worsen the situation.

This further emphasized the aggressive intentions of Israel, for which such a move by Hezbollah was unexpected. Israeli government spokesman Ilon Levy even called it “very boring.” However, Nasrallah warned that the clashes could spread throughout the region. But he’s not the only one talking about it.

As a result, after the talks, Blinken and Netanyahu spoke separately at a press conference. The US secretary of state called on Israel to halt ground operations and attacks on civilians and appealed for humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He also stated the need for at least a “temporary truce” to resolve the hostage issue and noted that “Israel cannot regain control and take responsibility for Gaza again,” and in the future “the only guarantee for Israel’s security is the independence of Palestine.”

This is also “the only way to guarantee long-term security for a Jewish and democratic Israel and the only way for the Palestinians to realize their legitimate aspirations”.

As for Netanyahu, he thinks so “a cease-fire will only be achieved if the hostages are released.” But in practice, the application of such a formula will be very difficult even for military-technical reasons.

Overall, as Axios writes, “Israel’s actions as partner lead to criticism of US policy on Gaza war” and “Washington seeks leverage over Tel Aviv”. In this regard, it is assumed that the US will attract regional partners to this end.

But for them, according to experts, “the war caused a change in thinking” and they demand stronger action by the United States to recognize a Palestinian state. Therefore, the time has come for the United States not only to choose, but to act.
