Netanyahu insists to Macron by phone not to advocate restricting weapons to Israel –

The president of France, the liberal Emmanuel Macron.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated this Sunday in a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron that he hopes his allies will not “impose restrictions that will only strengthen the Iranian axis of evil,” after the European leader advocated limit the shipment of weapons.

“Just as Iran supports all parts of the Iranian terrorist axis, it is expected that Israel’s friends will support it and not impose restrictions that will only strengthen the Iranian axis of evil,” said a statement from its Office today reporting on the call between both.

“The prime minister emphasized that Israel’s actions against Hezbollah create an opportunity to change the reality in Lebanon for the benefit of stability, security and peace throughout the region,” adds the text, which further states that both leaders “agreed promote a dialogue” during the visit of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, scheduled tomorrow in Jerusalem.

These words come after Macron said on Saturday, referring above all to the US and in an interview broadcast by France Inter radio, that it was necessary to seek “a political solution” to the conflict in Gaza, as well as to leave to supply Israel with weapons.

The French leader also said in the interview that Lebanon “cannot become the new Gaza” and called for a de-escalation of the conflict.

After these statements, Netanyahu called his insinuation “shameful” and predicted that Israel will win “with or without the support” of France.

Nentanyahu’s statements were described as “excessive” in a note from the Elysée, in which the French Government insisted that the request to stop providing weapons to Israel occurs in a context of “increased violence” that can only be stopped with an “immediate ceasefire” in both Gaza and Lebanon.
