MADRID, 8 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated this Monday that “there is a date” for the offensive on the city of Rafah, located in the south of the Gaza Strip and home to more than a million Palestinians displaced by the of the Israeli war against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
In a video published on his social networks, the Israeli president has defended this next military operation as the last step to dismantle the Palestinian militia which, according to him, has its stronghold precisely in Rafá.
The Israeli authorities already announced weeks ago that they would carry out an offensive against the city, arousing criticism from the international community. Rafah is one of the few territories in the Gaza Strip where Israeli attacks have not yet devastated the area and where hundreds of thousands of displaced people from other Gazan areas attacked by Israel take refuge.
This announcement by Netanyahu comes at a time when envoys from Israel and Hamas are negotiating in Cairo a possible agreement for a ceasefire in exchange for the release of hostages held captive by the Palestinian militia since October 7, the date on which Hostilities broke out in the region.
“Today I received a detailed report on the talks in Cairo, we are working all the time to achieve our objectives, mainly the release of all our hostages and achieving a complete victory over Hamas,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said.
The Israeli leader has stressed on his official profile on the social network “It will happen, there is a date,” he concluded.
