Netanyahu accuses Hezbollah of preparing a major attack on Israel

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

prime minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu claiming that his party had succeeded in discovering the plans of the militia group Hizbullah invade his country through underground tunnels containing jeeps and missiles.

In interviews with French broadcasters CNews and Europe 1, Netanyahu said that if the plan was successful, the scale of the attack would be more destructive than the one carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023 against Israel.

“One hundred meters, two hundred meters from the border we found a tunnel, a tunnel that was preparing an attack on Israel, an attack even more intense than on October 7,” Netanyahu said, according to a translation provided by the network.

“With a jeep, a motorcycle, a rocket, missiles. They (Hezbollah) are planning an attack,” he continued.

Earlier this month, Netanyahu told the French daily Le Figaro that Israeli soldiers found advanced Russian military hardware in Hezbollah’s weapons cache.

Since mid-September, Israel has been hitting Lebanon. Then on October 1, they launched an invasion of the country or what is called a limited ground invasion operation.

Israel claims the operation only targeted Hezbollah and its infrastructure. However, they attacked civilian facilities and even the positions of a peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Based on AFP calculations from Lebanese Ministry of Health figures, the war has killed at least 1,552 people. However, the actual number of victims is likely to be higher.
