Wang Xu named on the list of China’s richest people
He received attention as a self-made man in his 30s.

A Chinese woman in her 30s is a self-made woman and has assets equivalent to that of American pop star Madonna, putting her name on the list of China’s richest people.

On the 3rd, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Wang Xu, a 35-year-old woman with a net worth of 8.5 billion yuan (about 1.6426 trillion won), was named on the ‘2024 Hurun Rich List‘ published by the Hurun Research Institute last month. Hurun Research Institute publishes a list of China’s top 100 richest people every year, and this year, the public’s attention was focused on Wang Xu.

Previously, Wang Xu was recently included in Forbes’ ‘2024 List of America’s Richest Self-Made Women’. He tied for 39th place with American pop star Madonna. Since most of the women on the list were over 60, Wang Xu also attracted attention due to her young age.

According to SCMP, Wang Xu was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, northeastern China, and settled in Baltimore, Maryland, USA with his mother around the age of 16. While attending school, he helped support his family by selling scooters at a flea market on weekends. Wang Xu’s warm and passionate personality greatly increased the store’s sales. “That was my first sales experience,” Wang Xu recalled. “I had to learn how to sell so I could help my mom.”

After this experience, he started dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur. After entering the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Wang Xu met his friend Alex Bouaziz, dropped out of graduate school, and co-founded ‘Aeris Cleantec AG’, an air purifier company, where he served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Aeris was acquired by iRobot in 2021 for about $100 million (about 136.9 billion won), confirming Wang Xu’s talent as an entrepreneur.

In 2019, Wang Xu and Bouaziz founded ‘Deel‘, a human resources service provider that provides remote workers’ salaries and simplifies recruitment and immigration procedures. It is known that Wang Xu predicted that remote work would become a major trend after experiencing the coronavirus crisis and created it. Deel raised $12 billion (approximately KRW 16.4388 trillion) in funding in 2021, and the company’s sales exceeded $500 million (approximately KRW 684.9 billion) as of March this year.
