For the first time in its history the national competition for municipalities of “Nestle for Live Actively!” sets a certain theme – those who want to get involved can do so by organizing outdoor retro games for their residents in the period from September 1 to October 4, 2024. The retro focus has been specially chosen to provoke the participation of the youngest, who according to current data from surveys of their social media behavior and attitudes show a heightened interest in fashion and lifestyle in the 1980s and 1990s.
Checkers, folk ball, rubber band, edge – even without having heard of or knowing these games popular in the 80s and 90s of the last century, both toddlers and teenagers and their parents will easily learn the rules and discover new and unexpected ways for them to have fun actively and together.
The competition for municipalities is being held for the sixth year in a row in partnership with NSORB. Its purpose is to promote physical activity and a balanced diet among citizens, thereby counteracting the alarming statistics according to which 40% of Bulgarians are obese, and Bulgaria is in second place in Central Europe in terms of prevalence of obesity among children. / the data are from a survey by the “Trend” agency, conducted in May 2024./
„I want to especially thank NSORB, who have been a key partner of our initiative since its inception, for the enthusiasm and motivation with which they support our common cause. Without them, there is no way our messages will reach all municipalities in Bulgaria effectively and on time. NSORB are also invaluable in terms of the feedback from the municipalities, which gives us the opportunity to adapt the competition so that it is adequate and useful for the citizens. We believe that this year the Bulgarian municipalities will embrace our retro idea, which, among other things, is also a nod to the 30th anniversary of Nestlé Bulgaria, and will join our common cause – to move, both physically and spiritually, and to resist together of sedentism and boredom” – commented Neli Angelova, Director of Corporate Communications for the Southeast Market.
For the past 5 years in the national contest for the municipalities of “Nestle for Live Actively!” have participated 75 municipalities that have motivated over 250,000 Bulgarians to choose exercise and a balanced diet. The most active municipality that participated in all editions of the competition is Devnya, and the smallest in terms of population is the municipality of Bregovo with 4,806 inhabitants. BGN 100,000 is the money invested by Nestlé Bulgaria so far in projects for the renovation of city parks, the construction of an outdoor gym, the construction of an adventure active playground and designated areas for sports.
In the sixth competition, all Bulgarian municipalities can participate by organizing an event or a series of outdoor events on their territory, dedicated to the retro games of our childhood, in the period from September 1 to October 4, 2024 year
All municipalities that participate in the competition have the right to apply for financing of a project aimed at improving the environment, creating conditions for an active life or building habits for a balanced diet of the citizens of the respective municipality.
The grand prize in the competition, provided by Nestlé Bulgaria, is BGN 20,000, with which the winning municipality will be able to finance its project. A 5-member jury of experts will evaluate the projects and announce the winner.
The rules for participation in the competition, special instructions, and practical guidelines aimed at facilitating the municipalities in organizing their event, as well as all the necessary forms for participation, are available at Nestlé Bulgaria website.
