Newly published data from a study by the National Statistical Institute for the second quarter of 2024 show that Bulgaria is once again the leading destination for tourism among Bulgarians.
According to NSI, during this period, 71.3% of Bulgarian tourists traveled to a destination/destinations only in the country, respectively, 22.6% of Bulgarian tourists chose abroad, and 6.1% of them traveled both domestically and abroad.
The data from the NSI research also show that in the second quarter of 2024, the main part, i.e. 84.3% of the tourist trips of Bulgarian tourists in total for the country and abroad for personal purposes (holiday, visits to cultural events, etc. .) were organized independently, and 15.7% were realized through a tour operator or travel agent.
The NSI research is representative and is conducted on the basis of a sample of households in the country, the object of the research being the population aged 15 and over.
According to ESTI data, in the second quarter of 2024 there is a great interest from Bulgarians in the cultural, religious, marine, SPA, etc. types of tourism, and among the most visited destinations by Bulgarian tourists are the municipalities of Stolichna, Varna, Nesebar, Velingrad, Plovdiv, Burgas, Bansko, Sandanski, Samokov (including Borovets resort), Veliko Tarnovo, Hisarya, Razlog, etc.
