Half of the ministers, led by Deputy Prime Minister Rumiana Bachvarova, were against awarding her. In the end, the voice of Prime Minister Borisov weighed heavily and with seven with six votes, the proposal for Robeva went through the government and she will be honored.
Today, with an official letter, Robeva announces that she is returning the order.
Here is the text of the letter: In the last 24 hours, lively disputes have once again flared up around my person. Should Neshka Robeva be awarded or not?! Deserves it or not?! What is it worth and why is it not?! It’s no secret that I’m turning 70 in a few days. An advanced age, according to common understandings, and undeniably good for taking stock and evaluating each person’s life path. This year marks 50 years since I have been in the public eye, as a competitor, coach and leader of a music and dance group whose goal is to promote Bulgarian traditional art and culture.
After all this, it is quite normal for me to receive evaluations, both from the public and from various state and international institutions. And it is even more normal to have positive and negative ones.
During this life and, of course, because of this activity, I am the recipient of countless awards at home and abroad. I have been evaluated by Personalities and Impersonalities.
I have lived from “Hosanna” to “Crucify Him,” but all the while, and in my worst moments, I have felt the support and love of those some call “ordinary people.” What greater reward than that? .
I will say my big human thanks to the people of the Initiative Committee who proposed me for the great honor, to the people of MK who approved it and brought it to the MC, to the ministers who supported it and to Boyko, who despite our political differences and my frequent public appearances against him, has decided the dispute in favor of my award.

Thank you, but under the circumstances, I cannot accept the award, even more so if it is a cause for discord and a destroyer of the already fragile agreement in the Bulgarian government…
Even less would I like to cause a headache to the President, who, in the presence of mutual antipathy, should be the last to decide whether or not Neshka Robeva should be awarded.
And finally, I’d like to end with this – I don’t do demos. Like everyone, I carry a certain amount of vanity – I was glad, of course…
My decision to refuse came after the discussion between the ministers in the EU was leaked to the public domain. Despite the many mistakes I have made in my life, I have a clear consciousness and self-confidence about what I have done and am doing for my country and people, to allow another bigot and impersonal to grind their teeth on me.
I refuse the award also because of the thousands of friends and like-minded people whom I would definitely humiliate if I accepted it. I also refuse it because the young people I work with and educate should be, first of all, Bulgarians.
