Nerves, Pressure, and Illness: The Challenges of Competing in Stjernekamp

“Stjernekamp” is in earnest, and the remaining artists are already halfway through this year’s season.

But it’s not all joy and fun for the artists to participate in such competitions. Nerves and pressure to perform eat away at the psyche, and it can be safely stated that getting sick on top of it all is a nightmare.

– Shouldn’t be an old bride

Tone Damli (35) experienced that last week. When Dagbladet meets the artist during the “Stjernekamp” rehearsals on Thursday, she can say that it turned out to be a respiratory infection.

– There’s a bit of it in there, it does. So I still have a bit of a cough, and get tired quickly. I had swollen vocal cords, so there was a camera down my neck and stuff, says Damli and continues:

– The optimal thing is to rest and not use your voice, and that is obviously impossible.

The 35-year-old does not hide that last week was difficult, especially with regard to having to perform on stage.

– Absolutely something we have discussed

– It was absolutely horrible actually! It created such a fear in my head about “am I going to make it?”. It’s a terrible feeling, because it takes a lot on the psyche. I didn’t enjoy myself last week, she says honestly.

Furthermore, Damli can say that it took a lot of time to see the doctor, trips to the acupuncturist, and a lot of antibiotics and cortisone.

– So I had a pharmacy inside. But it’s like the acupuncturist said: “Now you’ve maxed it out, you can’t do anything more.” It is a good feeling, that you have done what you can.

Damli says that the disease is still lingering, and that she therefore has to take some precautions this week.

– The lucky panties are gone

– I will have to try and use my voice more correctly on one or the other if, but I am much better this week, she reassures her fans and eager TV viewers.

On Saturday, the stage is set for the sixth broadcast of the popular NRK programme, and it’s country and a group task that will be up for grabs.

Damli will sing Maren Morris’ “My Church”, in addition to Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff” together with Adrian Sellevoll (25) and Mari Bella (19).

– I would call it a bit “hurry around” right now. A lot to learn, a lot to practice, but it’s a lot of fun! It’s delicious when it boils a little, concludes Damli.
