Neri Marcorè in the new “Art Night” of Rai5 (channel 23)

From Macchiaioli to photojournalism, from great collectors from all over the world to the unreal worlds of Mirò and Bosch, to get to the performances of Marina Abramovic, and then take a step back to Giotto. Art and arts that – from Friday 29 October at 9.15 pm on Rai5 – are told by a new presenter of “Art Night”: Neri Marcorè. Actor, musician, television and radio host, imitator, Marcorè will range between painting and books, sculpture and opera, photography and pop music, fishing among everything that feeds his imagination
In the first appointment Marcorè takes a trip back in time, to Tuscany, in the years preceding the unification of Italy when an artistic movement was born under the derogatory label of “Macchia”. This is where the documentary produced by Rai Cultura begins “Let’s go to the bush. A revolutionary painting ”by Valeria Schiavoni directed by Monica Onore. The protagonists are the works of Giovanni Fattori and Silvestro Lega, both classical and reactionary, by Telemaco Signorini intense and daily, alongside those of lesser-known artists: Adriano Cecioni, Odoardo Borrani, Raffaello Sernesi, Vincenzo Cabianca.
Thanks to the intervention of the leading Macchiaioli scholars and great Italian art critics, the profiles of the protagonists of this movement are defined and of those who loved and supported them without prejudice: Elisabetta Matteucci, director of the Matteucci Institute; Federico Bano of the Bano Foundation – Palazzo Zabarella in Padua; Vanessa Gavioli, curator of the Pitti Palace Modern Art Gallery in Florence; Giuliano Matteucci, Founder of the Matteucci Institute of Viareggio; Eike Schmidt, Director of the Uffizi Galleries in Florence. And the art historians art historians Silvio Balloni, Lorella Giudici, Fernando Mazzocca.

A documentary that conveys the taste of an era pervaded by a revolutionary ferment, in culture and politics, that of the Italian Risorgimento, reconstructed by the historian Angelica Zazzeri, when the world of art was about to be put in crisis by a new art to which the Macchiaioli approach with curiosity: photography, told by Emanuela Sesti, photography historian of the Alinari Foundation for Photography in Florence.

“Art Night”, a program by Silvia De Felice and Emanuela Avallone, Massimo Favia, Alessandro Rossi, directed by Andrea Montemaggiori.
