Plop instead of bang, foam arrows instead of hail of bullets – that’s what you get with the Nerf Gun. In the shooter “Nerf Legends” the love-hate relationship of many parents comes to the screen – without any blood splatters.
First person shooters are too bloody, but is the genre somehow exciting? If you don’t like the crack of guns, explosions, blood and scary monsters, you might like “Nerf Legends”.
Because the shooter in Hasbro’s Nerf world manages without excessive graphic violence, but is still fast and demanding. Players land in a futuristic world and compete with foam guns against countless robots and boss opponents. In addition to pure finger gymnastics on the trigger, there are small puzzles, jumping challenges and switch puzzle courses. Graphically, you don’t just feel reminded of “Fortnite” – everything is brightly colored.
Single player fun, multiplayer unknown
At the start there are three foam cannons, in the course of the game you unlock another twelve, provided you have been successful. The handling of the weapons takes getting used to. On the one hand, accurate shooting is a real challenge. Perhaps a homage to the foam projectiles that fly crookedly as standard, perhaps a lack of fine-tuning. On the other hand, you keep reloading because you shoot really fast, but the magazines are really small.
In addition to the entertaining single-player mode with several more or less successive levels, there is also the multiplayer mode, here you can compete against other Nerf players from all over the world. According to the manufacturer, “Nerf Legends” is cross-play capable, so you can also compete against players with consoles from other manufacturers or PC players. Nothing is going on here, however. So how much fun the multiplayer will be remains to be seen.
In addition to the controls, the menus could use a little polish, navigation through the character editor and game modes really cannot be described as intuitive. The German localization is also a bit bumpy. Overall impression: A game with potential and still some construction sites.
“Nerf Legends” is available for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and Playstation. The colorful plöpp orgy costs around 50 euros.
