Swimmers from the Neptun Breisgau swimming club’s competition team took part in two different open water competitions with great success: in Lake Lucerne at the Weggiser Seeschwimmen and in the Gummersbacher Aggertalsperre at the 29th International German Masters Championships in open water swimming. In Weggis, Philipp Markert completed the three-kilometre lake crossing in a good 45 minutes and was third overall. In the women’s race, Lene Molz was seventh and Mahina Schlegel tenth in a field of almost 160 starters. Lani Schlegel achieved fourth place over the one-kilometer sprint distance. At the German Championships in Gummersbach, Jens Poppe from Denzlingen, coach of the club’s competition team, won over the long distance of five kilometers in his 40 to 45 age group in one hour and a good nine minutes. He improved his club record and became German champion. The day before he reached second place in the 2.5 kilometer competition. Also over 2.5 kilometers, the second SVNB swimmer Max Tertsch just missed the winner’s podium in the category from 20 years and finished fourth in his age group. The swimming club Neptun has its roots in Umkirch. After the Umkirch pool was closed in 2020 and the compulsory Corona break, he used the indoor pool in Freiburg-Lehen as a training facility.
