Neos Urges Parties to Reject Austria’s EU Exit on Brexit Anniversary

On the fourth anniversary of Brexit, the Neos recalled its “fatal consequences”.

A no to Austria’s exit from the EU in the preamble of the next coalition agreement – this is what the Neos are advocating. All parties should speak out clearly against a possible referendum on Öxit and record this in writing if they participate in the government. On Thursday, the fourth anniversary of Brexit, the Neos recalled the “fatal consequences” for Great Britain and warned against nationalist politics with a view to the special EU summit.

“It is dangerous if you leave the political field to the nationalists, the splitters, the detonators who want to destroy and take over this common Europe,” said Neos leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger at a press conference in Vienna. The “strength of Europe, prosperity, peace and freedom” must not be destroyed by politicians such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, AfD leader Alice Weidel or FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl. If the FPÖ is serious about not wanting Öxit, “then please sign it too,” said Meinl-Reisinger, referring to the preamble proposal.

“Release billions for Ukraine”

The Neos’ top candidate for the EU, Helmut Brandstätter, also outlined threats to the EU from “outside and within”, referring primarily to Russia and its supporters: If former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev threatens to use nuclear weapons, he will “get it “We applaud the nationalists.” Support for Ukraine is also important for Austria and the EU. Brandstätter appealed to the participants in today’s special EU summit: “Dear head of government, release these billions today.” An aid package worth 50 billion euros is to be approved in Brussels. Hungary’s Prime Minister Orbán blocked the project in advance, but, according to diplomatic sources, has already given up his veto. (APA)
