NeoCov Virus Claimed by Chinese Scientists a New Variant of Covid, What Virus Is It? page all

KOMPAS.com – A scientist report China reveal found virus NeoCov, which it claims is a ‘new Covid variant’. The report also sounds worrying, because apart from being claimed to be a new Covid variant, it is also said to be more deadly.

Launch The Independent, Saturday (29/1/2022), NeoCov Coronavirus said to have threatened with higher infection and death rates than the previous type of virus that caused a global pandemic, namely SARS-CoV-2 which causes Covid-19.

The report cites a study published in the online journal, BioRxiv, earlier this week, which was published by Chinese researchers and has not been peer-reviewed.

Chinese scientists find virus NeoCov, according to a report of a new, yet peer-reviewed study.

However, the NeoCov virus is not actually a new variant of corona virus which is the cause of the current global pandemic.

Otherwise, NeoCov is a virus originating from a different type of coronavirus associated with Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV).

So far, the origin Mers-CoV itself is not fully understood. MERS-CoV, so far known as the corona virus, is transmitted to humans from infected (Arabic) dromedary camels.

NeoCov is a close relative of the virus that causes the Middle Eastern respiratory tract infection, MERS-CoV and circulates among bats.

Virus The virus is zoonotic, meaning that the corona virus is transmitted between animals and humans, and can be transmitted through direct or indirect contact with animals.

In research published this week, Wuhan scientists warned that NeoCov or Neo Covid can cause problems, if passed from bats to humans.

corona virus However, they did not appear to be neutralized by human antibodies trained to target SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, or MERS-CoV.

The study of Chinese scientists who identified this virus as Neo Covid shows that there is a potential threat NeoCov coronavirus infect humans, but so far there is no evidence of any indication of how contagious or fatal the virus is.

Laboratory tests have also shown that the ability of the virus NeoCoV to infect bad human cells.

“We need to see more data confirming infection in humans and the associated severity before becoming anxious,” Professor Lawrence Young, a virologist at the University of Warwick, told The Independent.

This pre-print study, he said, showed that infection of human cells with the Neo-Covid virus was very inefficient.

He added that what this highlighted, however, needed to remain vigilant regarding the spread of coronavirus infections from animals, especially bats, to humans.

“This (the study of the NeoCov virus findings) is an important lesson we need to learn that requires better integration of infectious disease research in humans and animals,” explained Prof Young.

The researchers revealed that, the NeoCov virus called new variant of covid it turns out to be related to Mers-CoV.

“Mers-CoV has been identified in camels in several countries in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia,” said the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO says that in total, 27 countries have reported cases of Mers-CoV since 2012, and it has reportedly caused 858 known deaths due to infection and related complications.

The WHO further explained that according to an analysis of the genomes of different viruses, it is believed that the transmitted virus probably originated in bats and was then transmitted to camels at some point in the past.

The WHO says 35 percent of patients infected with Mers-Covid die, although this may be too high because mild cases may be missed by existing surveillance systems.
