The Nelson Mandela Bridge in Zoetermeer will reopen to pedestrians and cyclists on Thursday. Trains stop at the station in the evening, followed by trams the next day. Last December, the bridge over the A12 had to be closed due to construction errors. There was a risk of collapse.

The bridge is an important connection for the city and the only way to get to Zoetermeer station. In addition to the A12, a railway line and the RandstadRail also pass under the bridge.

The bridge has been reinforced in recent weeks with additional piles and a steel beam. The roof has been partially removed for the renovation. Pedestrians and cyclists will therefore no longer be able to get to the other side completely covered from Thursday.

It can also be slippery on the bike path, says a spokesman for the municipality Broadcasting West. The anti-slip coating has not yet been applied because it is still too cold for that. “When it rains, you have to watch out for cyclists,” said the spokesman.

Train from 7 pm

The first NS train will stop at Zoetermeer station on Thursday around 7 p.m. From Friday, trams will stop again at the Driemanspolder stop. In recent weeks, travelers to and from Zoetermeer had to take a stopping bus.
