Nelly Rangelova celebrated her 45 years on stage in the aristocratic setting of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. Her anniversary concert “Encore” brought the hall to its feet and made the audience shout: “More”, “More”.
Like one of her most emblematic songs over the years – “Self-Portrait”, Nelly made just such a walk through her work, going all the way back to her first years on stage – accompanied by Dani Milev’s band. She did it with some stunning evening gowns in gold, silver and red that dazzled with their glitter.
From the very beginning, she admitted that as a child she dreamed very much of being a ballerina, but in the end her musical talent prevailed. Her dream, however, was recreated with a very fine craftsmanship by our great prima ballerina Marta Petkova, who appeared on the stage during one of the performances.
Nelli Rangelova’s guests on stage were also the young singer Nevena Peikova, with whom they presented their duet “I want to be like you” and the undoubtedly big surprise for many – Georgi Hristov, who, apart from a colleague, is also a long-time good friend of Nelli Rangelova. The two delighted the audience with the ballad “When I look at you”, which is completely new and specially written for them.
Along with her other well-known hits, including “As I’ve Been”, “Encore”, “Boom, Boom”, her calling card “Unexplainable Things” (or “My Verse” as she’s better known to everyone), Nellie she also sang a more special song – “Maybe”, which turned out to be fateful for her. Shortly after singing it, she meets her great love Georgi Bochukov, with whom she has a son – Martin.
“Then I was 34 years old and alone. I was desperate that I would stay that way, but exactly one year after I performed this song, which, without knowing it, seemed to be dedicated to the man, when I didn’t have one yet, I met Georgi.” Nellie was frank from the stage
