Author and columnist Nele Reymen – sister of radio presenter Ann Reymen – will soon undergo a preventive double mastectomy and reconstruction. She announced this via Instagram. Reymen is very open on social media about the reason for the procedure.
“About ten years ago, my two sisters and I received the news after a genetic test that all three of us are carriers of a hereditary gene that significantly increases the risk of breast cancer,” Nele explains. “My sisters immediately decided to have a preventive and reconstructive procedure. I couldn’t really explain why I didn’t follow them then. In the meantime I can do that: because I didn’t have any children yet. Every day I take responsibility for my children and I feel like I have to do the same in this case.”
