Neither China nor the United States, the Olympic Games medal table left a new leader – Diario La Página – 2024-07-31 14:03:33

Japan is the new leader of the medal table for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Although the United States has won 20 medals, more than any other country so far, it has only three gold medals, which leaves it in sixth place in the overall table.

The Japanese delegation has 12 medals in total, six of them gold, a factor that makes the difference compared to the five each won by France, China, Australia and South Korea.

Day of surprises
In the swimming finals, the surprise was O’Callaghan’s victory in the 200m freestyle against a Titmus who two days earlier had crushed Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle.

David Popovici and Summer McIntosh, two of the greatest swimming gems at 19 and 17 years old, were crowned Olympic champions for the first time this Monday at the Paris Games, the Romanian in the 200m freestyle and the Canadian in the 400m medley.

Japan claimed gold in the men’s team competition in artistic gymnastics and the U.S. women’s team began its quest to an eighth consecutive Olympic title by crushing Japan (102-76).
