Neil Druckmann says he is increasingly intrigued by the narrative style of Elden Ring and INSIDE

Lately I’ve been intrigued by games like Elden Ring and INSIDE that rely less on traditional storytelling methods.

The best story moments in The Last of Us are delivered through cutscenes, but they are also present in gameplay when you simply explore the location and try to understand its story. These days, the kind of games I like best are the ones where the players are trusted to figure things out for themselves and not hold hands.

That doesn’t mean we’re going to reject dialogue or cutscenes. I think this is still one of the most important elements that can still be improved. At least in the games made by Naughty Dog. However, I’m interested in trying something new and different. Not everyone will like it, but that’s okay.
