Neighbors in Santiago de Cuba joined together to stop a thief who tried to rob a mother and her youngest son at the exit of the ‘La Colonia’ Pediatric Hospital in the main municipality this Tuesday, March 26.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who shared a video of the incident, the neighbors acted decisively and almost did not allow the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) to take the subject away because of the anger they felt.
The images show a large number of people outside a house where the thief tried to hide on 2nd Street, near Gasómetro Avenue.
“The robber broke into a house and although several police cars have arrived at the scene, the enraged people do not allow them to take the man, so they intend to lynch him.”
The attempted assault must have bothered those present, as they tried to take justice into their own hands, which made the work of the authorities difficult.
“Although several police cars have arrived at the scene, the enraged people do not allow them to take the man, because they intend to lynch him,” the communicator indicated at that time.
According to Mayeta Labrada, the officers who arrived at the scene had problems trying to get the thief into the patrol car, so they had to ask for reinforcements due to the anger of the people.
“A Black Beret commando arrived with long weapons to be able to take out the assailant,” he explained.
Additionally, the independent reporter indicated that the alleged thief resides in the Chicharrones neighborhood.
The thief’s actions were described as low by Internet users, pointing out that trying to assault a mother in the company of her son must have aroused the anger of the community, which explains the intense response from the neighbors. .
“One of the things I applaud about my province is the attitude they have to help other people”; “I take my hat off to the people of Santiago, how they support each other” and “That’s too much abuse. We have to take measures, there are too many thieves on the streets, you can’t get out anymore,” were some of the comments.
Likewise, the woman who was almost a victim of the thief commented on the publication, noting that she was grateful for the help she and her son received during the stressful situation.
“Thank you to everyone for your support, mainly to the population who did not leave me or my child alone. Many thanks to the people who managed to capture it. I got my things back, a little hurt, but thank God we are fine,” he wrote.
