Alexia Maiset is a family and school mediator at Apsis-Émergence. In Thionville, she coordinates a small group of volunteer neighborhood mediators within the association. Neighborhood mediators enable neighbors in conflict to find mutually acceptable solutions to the difficulties between them.
Who are the mediators?
Alexia Maiset : “We currently have seven retired volunteers who carry out neighborhood mediations in the following municipalities: Thionville, Cattenom, Entrange, Fameck, Florange, Uckange, Hayange, Guénange, Yutz, Moyeuvre, Rosselange, Rombas and Terville. »
What are their goals ?
“The objectives of these mediations are to allow an appeasement of neighborhood relations and the resolution of problems encountered by two neighbors. A person or family who is having problems with their neighbor(s) will be able to explain the situation to a pair of mediators, who then invite the other party, so that they can also express their vision of the situation. If both parties wish to find amicable and lasting solutions to their difficulties, then the mediators invite them to joint discussions, so that a dialogue opens between the two neighbors, with the expression of their feelings and their needs, and the search for mutually acceptable solutions. »
Are they trained?
“Yes, they receive training every year to strengthen their skills and give them mediation tools. I bring this team together every six weeks. The role of the mediator is to listen to everyone without taking sides. They do not give solutions, but help people find the solutions that suit them. »
How to enter them?
“This is a free, voluntary and free process. The mediators have premises in several towns, in Thionville and the surrounding area. Simply call the mediation service of the Apsis-Émergence association to contact them. »
