Neighborhood Aid Launches Free Self-Assertion Project for Strong Children in Digital World – Pentecost Holidays Program

Neighborhood Help is launching a new, free self-assertion project for strong children in the digitalized world during the Pentecost holidays. With a diverse course program, children between the ages of 10 and 13 are strengthened in their resilience and taught important skills for dealing with the digital world.
In a world in which children are juggling smartphones and tablets at an increasingly early age and the boundaries between reality and virtuality are blurring, children and parents need even more know-how to master the challenges of the digital world. The Neighborhood Aid of Vaterstetten, Grasbrunn, Zorneding eV will be supporting families from May onwards with a comprehensive range of services for 10 – 13 year olds and will help students to be more secure and self-confident, not just on the internet.
Wide range of courses
Children learn self-assertion techniques and basic communication skills from and with educators in various workshops. “The world around us is constantly changing, especially digitally. Smartphones and tablets are omnipresent – using digital media has become a fundamental skill, especially for children. This comes with challenges and risks, which strong and self-confident children can overcome very well,” says project manager Tessa Pfirschinger.
The focus is on fundamental awareness in dealing with media, dealing with group dynamics and one’s own body language, as well as preventing bullying or violence online. The dates start during the Pentecost holidays and can be continued afterwards:
Tuesday, May 21st 9:30 a.m. | Social media compact
Wednesday, May 29th 9:30 a.m. | Social media compact

Bettina Scharnagl teaches the young people basic knowledge about Instagram and the like. In addition to the legal background, children learn what makes a good photo and take their first steps with the graphics tool Canva.
Wednesday, May 22nd 10:00 | “Strong Children” project: democracy learning game, Quararo – friendship module
Martha Urban and Julia Bissinger playfully convey democratic processes and principles. In group play, the children learn about the different ways in which decisions are made among friends or in their free time and discuss friendship.
Mon/Tue, 27/28. May 09.30 | Words have power – self-assertion workshop
Veronika Elhardt teaches communication strategies and explains what language does and how conflicts can be defused verbally.

Support through Aktion Mensch and neighborhood help
The implementation of the project is jointly supported by the Neighborhood Aid of Vaterstetten, Grasbrunn, Zorneding eV and Aktion Mensch in order to open up the socially relevant topic to a broad audience. The courses are therefore free for registered children between the ages of 10 and 13. Registration is now open:

“Neighborhood help sets new standards in the area of free extracurricular offerings. We meet children in their world and prepare them for the challenges of the digital era. In concrete terms, this means: promoting self-efficacy, self-confidence and
Resilience. In this way, we support parents with digital media education in the long term. With us you can start with individual workshops, but you can also deepen your personal interests in regular courses,” explains department head Anna Birnstiel.
Support for free courses
By becoming a member of the Neighborhood Aid of Vaterstetten, Grasbrunn, Zorneding eV, those interested can contribute to ensuring that free courses can continue to be offered in the communities in the future. Membership is possible from just one euro per month: https://www.deine-

The project is looking for people with experience in the media or educational sector who would like to actively participate in the self-assertion project. Employees should be able to design workshops and group activities to support children in the areas of media literacy and self-assertion.
