“Neighbor Dispute in Thionville Leads to 30 Euro Fine and Legal Fees”

Two neighbors are at war. Amicable mediation attempts have failed and none are ready to move. Last Thursday, their dispute landed squarely before the Thionville police court. One accuses the other of having ruined her raspberries and of having insulted her copiously.

The defendant denies any damage to the raspberries in the garden, in Fameck. “I only use white vinegar and baking soda to weed,” she argues. On the other hand, she recognizes the toxicity of the insults uttered against her neighbor. Easy to imagine them, no need to repeat them.

30 euro fine

“I can’t take it anymore, I’ve lost my temper,” admits the defendant, in her forties. “It’s been two and a half years that it lasts,” she continues. The houses are terraced. When it’s not the shrubs that overflow, it’s the volume of the music that disturbs. When it’s not the barbecue that stinks, it’s the friends that make the noise. “I should not have insulted him,” concedes the defendant, who has never been convicted. “I want to apologize,” she slips, turning to her neighbor.

The court, dismayed, releases the neighbor for the degradation of the raspberries, for lack of evidence. On the other hand, he condemns her to a fine of 30 euros for non-public insults (this is a first-class violation). She will also have to pay 50 euros in damages for non-pecuniary damage. And 400 euros for the lawyers’ fees paid by the victim.
