The future of our children cannot be reduced to a simple mathematical equation! The news of the closure of a class at the elementary school of Nègrepelisse is proposed for the start of the new school year in September 2023. The mayor of the town, Morgan Tellier, wrote to the academic director of Tarn-et-Garonne to express his opposition to this expected closure:
“Certainly, school demographics, and only schools, are slowing down. Is this not the opportunity for National Education, at the very least, to maintain the means and positions in place to improve learning and support committed teaching teams?
The Nègrepelisse school was recommended by the institution itself to define and implement action plans to support the large proportion of needy or fragile students and to have a reflection on the management heterogeneity. How can the institution ask this of teams, of a school, by taking away the means to do it?
Morgan Tellier specifies: “The Minister of National Education has decided to take into account the need to improve the learning of French and mathematics in cycle 3 and that closing a class therefore goes against the ministerial commitment. .”
In his letter to Dasen, the mayor indicates “not to worry about the future of the Nègrepelisse school but to be particularly concerned about the drop in resources given by National Education to our communities and our committed teaching teams and , in fact, to seriously worry about the future of our young citizens for whom we are responsible in our sovereign missions. The future of our children cannot be reduced to a simple mathematical equation but must be considered a priority by giving the means necessary for professionals and communities”. Morgan Tellier, with his municipal team and the Parents’ Association, strongly hopes to be heard, and that the decision to close a class in Nègrepelisse is simply withdrawn from the shelves.
A message from the parents’ association Les Petits Nègrepelissiens. “The association has just learned of the closure of a class for the start of the new school year in September 2023. We oppose it! Removing classes destabilizes the teaching teams and makes the dynamics of school projects impossible. The evaluation of the school, carried out at the end of 2021, planned to focus reflection on taking into account students with special educational needs and more broadly on the management of heterogeneity. Our school welcomes allophones, Efiv (students from itinerant families and travellers), an Ulis class, Occitanists. The hard-won academic and social mix is therefore threatened! We refuse to overcrowd the numbers in our classes, which would lead to a deterioration in the learning conditions of our children, a decline in the quality of life in our school and the working conditions of the teaching team. A class is much more than a simple mathematical calculation! Let’s stay mobilized! Let’s protect n our children, our school!”
