Negotiations Underway for the Release of Hostages: Israel-Hamas Talks in Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv: Israel-Hamas talks to release hostages reportedly underway. Two talks are currently underway with different proposals for the release of the hostages.

Proposals for releasing a few people are being considered in the first discussions. The second round of talks involved proposals to free a hundred or more civilians held hostage by Hamas.

According to Israeli figures, more than 240 people have been taken prisoner by Hamas. Half of them are civilians. Efforts are being made to free all the common people as part of the larger negotiations.

According to the first proposal, Hamas would have to release 10 to 20 civilians, including Israeli citizens, women and children, and foreigners, including American citizens. Instead, Israel will pause its ongoing occupation attacks on Gaza. If both sides agree, it will be possible to release around 100 civilians in the second proposal.

In exchange for the release of all civilians, Hamas has demanded a brief temporary ceasefire, more humanitarian aid, fuel for hospitals and the release of women and children in Israeli prisons. But reports indicate that Israeli authorities have refused to release the prisoners.

Both talks are being mediated by Qatar. And the United States is also a participant in the talks. The U.S. is understood to have accepted in broad terms the demand that Israel temporarily cease attacks on Gaza in order to free the hostages.

The US hopes this will pave the way for more humanitarian aid to Gaza and the release of hostages. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who arrived in Delhi, had said that he would constantly try to free the American citizens who were held hostage.

At the same time, the authorities have stated that Hamas has refused to release the Israeli men serving in the military service who are being held captive in Gaza. Hamas has told mediators that it has 130 to 140 captured Israeli soldiers and has no immediate plans to release them.
