NBC said that negotiations to release the prisoners detained in… Gaza It faltered due to Israel’s refusal to allow fuel to be sent to the Gaza Strip, amid the insistence of some countries, led by America and Israel, to obtain a guarantee from the Palestinian resistance to release large numbers of detainees.

A former American official, who requested to remain anonymous, said: “Hamas insists on obtaining fuel, and the Israeli and American sides, in addition to other countries, want to release a large group of their citizens.”

The US official, an Israeli official and a diplomat familiar with the talks said the discussions collapsed before Israel began the second phase of its offensive on Friday evening and sent ground forces into Gaza.

The diplomat familiar with the talks said: “The talks were going very well on Thursday, and negotiators had hoped to reach an agreement over the weekend, but differences emerged early on Friday, causing the talks to falter.”

Previous talks resulted in the release of four hostages, including two Americans and two elderly women, on two separate days.

The Times of Israel reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a press conference on Saturday evening that the exchange of all Palestinians imprisoned for security crimes in exchange for prisoners detained in Gaza is among the options that Israel is considering.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant told reporters that intensifying Israeli attacks is the best way to free the prisoners. “The more we attack Hamas, the more we know they will be willing to reach some kind of agreement, and we will be able to bring our dear hostages home,” Gallant said.

The negotiators said they were still optimistic, and the former US official said that the talks had reached a “temporary deadlock,” and that the escalation had slowed the talks, but they were still continuing.
