Almost two weeks after the protests at Columbia University began, negotiations between authorities and students continue.
Camped on campus grounds, university students call on Columbia to stop investing in Israel and do business with companies they say are profiting from the war in the Middle East .
A spokesperson from the university said that the conversation is ongoing.
Separately, a spokesperson for Barnard College says the school has suspended most of the students who were arrested for participating in the protest in the first their week.
These students have the opportunity to renovate the residences, dining rooms and classrooms.
Columbia policymakers voted Friday to investigate how university leaders are handling the protest, as well as anti-Semitism and Islamophobia on campus.
At the same time at City College, protests against the Palestinians and against the war continue in the camp that was established from Thursday on the university campus.
On Saturday night some protesters are heard saying that they are not going anywhere and that they will continue to stand firm.
The students also want the university to end its investments related to some companies that have ties to the Israeli government.
Some also want the school to end study abroad trips to that country.
Demonstrations with similar demands have become a national movement and have spread to several other universities in the city and the country.
Elsewhere, in Brooklyn, Jewish families took to the streets to protest a stoppage in Gaza.
This presentation was organized by the organization “Jews for Racial and Economic Justice” and is part of the Passover event for Jewish children.
About 50 families gathered yesterday at Grand Army Plaza, asking Senate Majority Leader Chuck Scumer to support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The politician lives a few blocks from the place.
Last week the organization “Jewish Voice for Peace” held a similar event.
