Negotiations will take place between Western countries, Ukraine and key developing countries, including India and Brazil.
Diplomats participating in the discussion told the publication that talks on Ukraine will be held on August 5 and 6 in Jeddah. High-ranking officials from 30 countries will arrive there.
This comes amid a growing struggle between the Kremlin and Ukraine’s western supporters to support large developing countries, many of which are neutral on the war in Ukraine.
The publication reports that Ukraine and Western officials hope these efforts will culminate in a peace summit later this year.
It is expected that the summit will sign a document with general principles for resolving the war in Ukraine, which will then launch future peace talks with Russia.
This year’s summit will not include Russia, which avoids any serious talk of peace and adheres to the maximalist demands of any settlement of the war.
Negotiations with Russia
Last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky passed a decision, approved by the National Security and Defense Council, barring any talks with Putin.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov noted that the doors for dialogue with Russia are currently closed. He recalled the simple conditions that Ukraine puts to end the conflict.
At the same time, Zelensky admitted that the Russian dictator would want negotiations when the Armed Forces of Ukraine reach Crimea.
