“I am sure that we will reach a treaty that will take into account the reality of the two countries and very much take into account the respect that Brazil must have for its ally, our beloved Paraguay,” said the head of state at the inauguration ceremony. Itaipu’s new Brazilian director, Deputy Enio Verri.
The commitment was made in a speech at the headquarters of the binational hydroelectric plant in which he addressed the president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, invited to the ceremony, and before the foreign ministers of both countries.
“On the part of Brazil we are more mature, more aware, and we will make a new more beneficial treaty for the maintenance of the development of Brazil and Paraguay, and for the maintenance of good coexistence between the two countries,” he assured.
