The steering group will meet in the afternoon, before the start of the negotiation there will be a statement by party leaders Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and Werner Kogler (Greens). It is obviously not a final round. Because talks are also planned at the weekend.
But now really: The government negotiations between the ÖVP and the Greens will resume on Friday, and experts are assuming that the talks on New Year’s Eve will be concluded – or even this year: “My forecast would be that the decisions by December 31 of this year fell, “said the green Vorarlberg regional councilor and coalition negotiator Johannes Rauch on Thursday in the Ö1” Holiday Journal “. Gernot Blümel was named as the new finance minister, and the current ÖVP general secretary Karl Nehammer as interior minister. Both men are close companions of Sebastian Kurz, so their appointment to the government would come as no surprise. For the Greens, former Global 2000 managing director Leonore Gewessler is a hot tip for the Ministry of Infrastructure. Former President of the Rectors’ Conference Eva Blimlinger is mentioned as a possible green Minister of Culture and / or Education. All names are unconfirmed.
The Austria Press Agency reported on Thursday that the talks on Friday are not yet expected to conclude the talks. Talks are also planned over the weekend. According to the APA, this has to do with the fact that the Greens need a certain lead time for their decisions. Because with them a federal congress decides on the coalition agreement and it has to be invited a week in advance. If, as has been repeatedly reported, the weekend of January 4th and 5th were targeted for this congress, one should be at least as far shortly before New Year’s Eve that one could risk calling the congress.
