“Despite all the economic difficulties, we must take this calmly, negotiate, explain that we are also interested in improving the quality of this market – the cargo transportation market,” he said.

Podolyak emphasized that for Ukraine Poland is a key transit partner through which everything necessary is supplied.

“We must find a balance, and I think we will succeed,” he added.

Protests on the Polish border

Ukraine raised the issue with Poland and the European Union regarding the implementation of memorandums on the capacity of Ukrainian-Polish checkpoints. In particular, Kyiv received a message about the risk of blocking checkpoints by Polish carriers.

What are Polish carriers unhappy with?

Carriers are outraged by allegedly excessive competition after the liberalization of international transport between Ukraine and the EU. In particular, they require:

return permits to Ukrainian carriers; strengthen transportation rules for foreign carriers at the European Conference of Ministers of Transport; inability to register companies in Poland if the company’s finances are not located in the EU; a separate queue at “єCherga” for cars with EU license plates; a separate queue at all borders for empty trucks; gain access to the Shlyakh system.
