More than 78 billion CFA francs is the amount provided by the government to acquire agricultural equipment and help farmers to boost production during the 2024-2025 campaign. The goal is to achieve food self-sufficiency from the next agricultural season. This is a huge effort that is being made with the rather difficult context for the country where “everything is urgent”. Also, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the president of the movement, invited young people to move to storm the fields. Therefore, the “Waiyan” must move as they are used to doing around roundabouts and in public squares, to show their unwavering support to the interim president and his Presidential Campaign for demonstrate food self-sufficiency.
Of course, there is no need to shout on social media platforms and in roundabouts to appeal to support the movement and its president, if we are not able to guarantee our projects to achieve Supporting Ibrahim Traoré does not mean waving the flag of Russia and those of the countries of the Federation of Sahel States, but promising to rebuild Burkina Faso through strong actions in the field in which we are able . In any case, this donation of agricultural equipment is a good opportunity for these young “country people”, through their associations, to show again that they really love their country, Burkina Faso.
However, the acquired equipment must reach, not only those who need it, but those involved in farming. Because experience shows in the past that equipment that the State got for farmers has gone into the hands of people who have nothing to do with agriculture. Result: the objective for which it was obtained was never achieved. Worse, the equipment was never paid back. As a result, the work could not continue, harming the real farmers.
That is why we agree with the Minister Commander Ismaël Sombié of Agriculture and Animal Resources and Fisheries when he says that the equipment received will indeed be for those who have the right to it. Better, we want to say that it must be transported to areas designated as agricultural production areas where there are already producers. Because the problem with Burkinabe agriculture is those who are not in the field but who say they are abusive there and who, through their mercantile behavior, are obstacles to the development of real producers.
Also, to reduce this phenomenon if we don’t stop it, we need to remove everyone who is not in the field from the supply chain of producers of materials, inputs and seeds. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that the inputs and seeds available from producers are of good quality. Otherwise, all efforts will be in vain.
