Necessary to adopt digital tools in PJF to comply with mandate: councilor

Mexico City. We are living in an era in which technology is present in practically every aspect of our daily lives and “the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF) cannot lag behind in the adoption of digital tools, since this is not an option, but a necessity to comply with the mandate of justice in a society that is increasingly connected,” said the Judicial Councilor, Celia Maya García.

The member of the Plenary of the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) stated the above while participating in the third seminar on Administrative Law in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, organized by the Legal Research Institute of the UNAM.

Maya García highlighted that there has been progress in terms of technological adaptation and use in the CJF, since “we have the electronic file which has revolutionized the way we manage judicial cases. It is not just a replacement of paper with digital documents, but a transformation
complete overview of how judicial information is structured and accessed.”

He explained that “digitalization has allowed for quick and secure access to documentation, improving efficiency and facilitating transparency in the system,” as well as the implementation of virtual hearings, largely driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What began as a temporary measure has become standard practice in many cases, allowing for flexibility and cost reduction for those seeking justice, especially in situations where the parties reside in different states,” said the counselor who voted in favor of ending the work stoppage in the courts as of next Monday.
