NEC certainly did not do good business when it visited NAC Breda. In North Brabant, coach Rogier Meijer’s team lost on Saturday evening with one more man on the field: 1-0.
The opening phase of the match in the Rat Verlegh Stadium had little spectacle. NEC left the ball to the home team, but was then unable to create any danger on the counter-attack. NAC Breda was given the same fate. Only after a quarter of the match was the first shot on target, where Robin Roefs was able to make the save.
From that moment on, the people of Breda took more of the initiative and after half an hour it was thanks to Bram Nuytinck that NAC did not take the lead. With a great sliding on the ball, the man marker prevented a great opportunity for Lars Mol. A few minutes later, Sontje Hansen scored the only attempt on goal for the Nijmegen team in the first half with a simple roller.
Even after the break, the level of both teams left much to be desired. A free kick from Lasse Schöne and an attempted bicycle kick from Mol were one of the few moments in front of the opponent’s goal. With three substitutions on the hour, coach Rogier Meijer tried to change the game pattern.
With a red card for NAC ten minutes later, all signals for a change were green. But that didn’t happen. In fact, after a ten-minute delay due to an object on the pitch, it was the home team who opened the scoring. Dominik Janošek was allowed to connect from 20 meters and left Robin Roefs without a chance.
Despite the surplus situation, NEC subsequently failed to make a fist, leaving NAC standing. NEC will be off next week due to international football, and SC Heerenveen will visit the Goffert Stadium on Saturday, October 19.
