NEC striker Bas Dost has his last medical check-up in mid-January. The veteran can then focus on a return, says technical director Carlos Aalbers.
“Bas is doing well. I spoke to his agent yesterday. He has his last check-up on January 15 and we have to wait and see whether that gives the green light,” says Aalbers at the site there is NEC.
The 34-year-old Dost has not yet trained since he collapsed during AZ-NEC at the end of October due to an inflamed heart muscle. He was treated on the field and taken to hospital when conscious. There the attacker received an internal defibrillator.
Dost recently said that he wants to return to the field, but that he was still struggling with the after-effects of the inflamed heart muscle. According to Aalbers, Dost is recovering well. “Bas feels good and if the control is positive, he wants to start again soon.”
“He says he is going to come back. Hopefully that will happen. That would be great for Bas and for NEC. He wants to show that he does not want to say goodbye like this, but health comes first,” says Aalbers.
NEC is currently at a training camp in Spain. Coach Rogier Meijer’s team will resume the Eredivisie on January 14 with an away match against Feyenoord.
