NEC Signs Childhood Sweetheart Sylla Sow as New Striker

NEC managed to attract a new striker on the last day of the transfer period. Sylla Sow from Go Ahead Eagles is moving to Nijmegen. The striker scored in De Goffert earlier this season and expressed his love for the club and city.

NEC drew 1-1 against Go Ahead Eagles and Sow was the goalscorer for the club from Deventer. Afterwards he was full of praise for the people of Nijmegen. “NEC is my childhood love. I’m from the city, I was a ball boy and I played here as a youth. Unfortunately I never got to make my debut. You can ask anyone in my team, when we drove here I said how beautiful Nijmegen is and that it is my city. I am a supporter, I always will be.”

Now the 27-year-old striker returns to his childhood sweetheart. He will definitely return to NEC for this season, although the club has a unilateral option to extend it for one year. Sow went through the youth academy of the Nijmegen team, but never played in the NEC main squad.

On the NEC club website, Sow speaks of a nice return. “I am a proud Nijmegen resident. I played football here for a long time, I was a ball boy and every time I drive into the city I start to get an itch. Playing for the club you love is a dream come true. I am really looking forward to appearing in the Goffert.”

Technical director Carlos Aalbers is also happy with the transfer. A new striker in the selection was necessary after the loss of Bas Dost. “With Sylla we have received the desired reinforcement for the vanguard. The fact that Sylla comes from Nijmegen completes the story. We look forward to achieving our goals together with him!”

Earlier on Deadline Day, Sami Ouaissa was already presented at NEC. However, he will only join in the summer, as the Nijmegen team will rent him out to Roda JC for the next six months.
