After an easy evening against FC Volendam, NEC can add their sixth victory of the season. The team from Nijmegen won 3-0 in their own Goffert stadium.

The leader in draws – already 12 after 23 games – won for the second time in a row. Last week, Excelsior was defeated in Rotterdam with the same figures.

NEC was not alert at the start of the match and that resulted in opportunities for Volendammers Calvin Twigt and Gaetano Oristanio within the first minutes, but NEC escaped from falling behind.

Shaken up well, NEC then got the game more and more under control and it was a matter of waiting for a goal. For example, goalkeeper Filip Stankovic felt the ball slip through his legs after a shot from Oussama Tannane, but not with enough momentum to cross the goal line.

The Serbian goalkeeper also stopped a dangerous header from Magnus Mattsson and Dirk Proper saw his shot cleared off the line by Xavier Mbuyamba.

Volendam had a very difficult time, but could have just gone into the break with a lead. Twice, however, Francesco Antonucci’s shot ended up in the hands of goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

NEC makes a difference after the break

After an hour of play, NEC got the lead it deserved. From a corner by Lasse Schöne, the ball ended up at the feet of Iván Márquez, who was able to give the decisive tap from close range.

And ten minutes later Tannane gave Landry Dimata free passage to the Volendam goal with a nice pass. The attacker already made it 2-0 stumbling. In stoppage time, substitute Pedro Marques scored the third for NEC.

The win moves NEC up to ninth place. Volendam is fourteenth, three points above the relegation zone.
