Nebulossa already has the official photographs with which to promote her candidacy to represent Spain in Eurovision 2024 on May 11 in Malmö, Sweden. Some careful, sensual and elegant images with which to show another facet of Mery Bas and Mark Dasousa.

RTVE and the Alicante duo have collaborated with the Santo Mauro hotel in Madrid to carry out this first official photo session that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will use in promotion throughout the Eurovision stage.

A “movie” photo session

The photo session has been designed by the Director of Communication and Participation of RTVE, María Eizaguirre, together with the prestigious photographer Valero Rioja, who once again joins the Eurovision project. “On the road to Eurovision every detail matters,” said Eizaguirre, “that’s why we have decided to do a careful session that reflects very well the personalities of Mery and Mark.” The Director of Communication has also highlighted that «Valero has the quality of reaching with his camera where the heart moves. And it is known that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Mery Bas and Mark Dasousa declare themselves great cinephiles, they even admit that they “watch more movies than we listen to music.” Specifically, cinema has been the main inspiration for this work with the aim of the European public getting to know the Spanish representatives a little better. According to Rioja, «when I saw that Nebulossa won the Benidorm Fest, I loved Mery. She is very pretty and has a lot of vibes, but I wanted to give her a spin because I suddenly saw her as an actress from the 60s.

In Valero Rioja’s imagination for this photo shoot has been one of the great icons of cinema and fashion: Brigitte Bardot. “I saw it very clearly,” he said: “I was inspired by the golden age of Brigitte Bardot and the explosion of a wonderful era like the European dolce vita; that glamorous, sexy, fun and modern decade. The daring costumes, the makeup with the boldest eyes, the hair with the classic bangs of the French actress and even the poses of Bardot herself, contribute to that cinematic aesthetic of the 60s. In addition, the black and white photographs , he explained, complete this movie atmosphere.

The photographer has also had cinematographic influences for the photographs with Mark Dasousa: «I think the two make a couple very much from the James Bond films. In fact, I imagined Mark as Sean Connery. In the photos, he occupies a bit of a background, but he is always present.

The Santo Mauro hotel in Madrid, an old palace in the heart of the capital, has been the perfect enclave to recreate the classic, yet modern aesthetic that was sought for these photographs.

Valero Rioja has been very “happy” with the result: “Mery and Mark immediately got into the role, I think they really liked the idea. It’s fun to characterize yourself because it allows you to free yourself a little.” In fact, Mery Bas has acknowledged that it has been “one of the moments that I have enjoyed the most of everything we have done so far in promotion. “I have felt very comfortable.”
