Nearly 50 arrests were made across the country on Sunday. In Rotterdam 26, Enschede five, Groningen five and in the Limburg towns of Roermond and Stein also five. A fire broke out in a primary school in Roosendaal, presumably by a fireworks bomb and several arrests have been made.

Supporters

A few hundred Feyenoord supporters came to the stadium in Rotterdam to encourage their team with a lot of fireworks, despite the empty stands. When a large part had left, the atmosphere changed after the break and the police were pelted with fireworks and cans.

In Groningen, around a quarter past nine in the city center, De Grote Markt was swept empty on Sunday evening. Shortly before that, an optician was looted. Mayor Koen Schuiling has issued an emergency order. Anyone who misbehaves or does not follow the directions of the police can be arrested. There was a corona demonstration in Groningen on Sunday afternoon, which had gone smoothly.

Bus shelter and shop window

In the evening large groups of people came together after calls via social media to commit violence, according to the Groningen police. Among other things, a bus shelter and shop window have had to pay for it. Due to the unrest, bus operator Qbuzz reported that it would no longer drive on and around the Grote Markt for the rest of the evening.

The police also had to intervene in Stein, Roermond, Enschede, Roosendaal and Leeuwarden because of irregularities. For example, young people set off fireworks outside the Cambuur stadium. The ME was forced to intervene against the hundreds of Cambuur supporters who had gathered around the stadium of their club. The game had to be played in the first six minutes Cambuur FC Utrecht to be shut down twice, after that it remained restless on the square in front of the stadium.

Police officers drew their weapons, but no shots were fired. Three people were arrested. “The way in which rioters have wreaked havoc is criminal,” Mayor Buma van Leeuwarden said in a response to NOS. “Respect for the police and fire brigade who acted under difficult circumstances.”
